Colleague Ahmet the Plant Caretaker

About the flowers... Not the bees...

About a year ago, we opened our travel agency in Cappadocia. Because the tulip originally comes from Turkey and is now very Dutch, the tulip had to be in our logo. With the opening, we received a lot of flowers and plants. Over time, we got rid of many plants. With a tulip in our logo and an office full of flowers and plants, our shop looked more like a flower and plant shop than a travel agency.

Ahmet is also not the best plant caretaker. Yesterday he told me an anecdote about how he often helped the principal when he was a little boy in primary school. The principal had a soft spot for little Ahmet. They were very fond of each other. On Friday afternoons, during the end-of-week ceremony, he was often allowed to carry the Turkish flag, something he still looks back on with great pleasure.

One day, he was allowed to help care for the principal's plants. Little Ahmet spent more than two hours on it. The plants had very small leaves, but there was a layer of dust on them. So he went leaf by leaf with a watering can and a plant spray to clean them. Three days later, the principal came asking what Ahmet had done. All his plants were dead. Ahmet showed him the watering can and the plant spray. The plant spray was correct, but the liquid inside was for cleaning windows.

From that moment on, he never took care of the principal's plants again, but he was promoted to the school's permanent flag bearer.

He now protects the one plant that still stands in our office with his heart.
